Just about everyone has a blog in some niche or another. Why not start now if you have yet to jump on the blog bandwagon? Your level of success will depend on why or what you are blogging for. This premise goes back to the question, Why Start a Blog?”
Blogging can open so many doors. One might be to find a new audience or someone to talk to. You can write a blog to get things off your mind and out in the open. Or you might be blogging as a way to journal.
Writing a blog should be an inspiration to an audience. Use your blog to satisfy, inspire, and influence an audience. You will always want to blog once you have people respond to you in positive ways. You can inspire your audience in many different ways:
- Changing their lives for the better
- Giving them something to read
- Creating something beautiful
- Help other people
- Helping yourself
Blog to do all these things, or just blog to get something off your chest.
Blogging can improve your writing ability. You might think that you cannot write a blog, but as you get into the swing of writing, you will find it easier, and your words flow more efficiently. You will develop a writing style that’s all yours.
Write often, and you will know what people want to read. Learning what people want to read will stretch your creativity, helping you write more about what people want to read.
Learn new skills as you blog. I am writing a blog for the fun and therapy of it and to turn my writing into a full-time career (and make money). Some new skills you will learn include
- WordPress
- Different audiences
- Learning SEO
- Crafting graphics
- Email marketing
- Social media marketing
- Content usage
- Website hosting.
You may not learn all these things—I’m certainly not that excited about website hosting—but you can learn just by writing a blog. In my 25 years of writing, I have blogged about many different things. I wrote for a company that built websites for medspas (now I know more about Botox than I would really want to know!). I have blogged about finances, relationships, addictions, medical practices, being pregnant, gardening, and so on.
Blogging is starting to be a way for me to stop being an introvert (or maybe it is adding to my introverted self). I can write all I want and have learned that allowing my thoughts to flow is great. I don’t have to call you on the phone, but you can read and comment on my blogs. I will either be very hurt and get over it, or I will be overwhelmed with pleasure.
I can blog to share my ideas publicly. This is a great way to confront my fear of being noticed. By blogging, I realized that many introverts are just like me.
Use blogging to be cathartic and help you work through your emotions and fears. Use blogging to aid in your struggles with mental health or to work on liking other people. A blog can just be a place to collect your thoughts.
It is possible to earn money by blogging. Many people have learned how to earn money from their blogs. It’s not easy, but it is possible. Those who blog as a living have honed their blogs for many years. They experiment and test things to see what is readable. It may take long hours of writing, but you might just have something to say that will provide someone who reads your blog an uplift.
Choose a profitable niche for your blog. Some blogs will help you earn money quickly, but you will need to build a target audience, which is what I am trying to do.
Just be prepared to work hard on your blog. Don’t just write one blog and forget it. I have thousands of blogs and backup files. I can only hope that someone will find my blogs interesting enough to ask me to blog for them or purchase them for their use.
If you are unwilling to put work into your blog, don’t start one. It can be stressful, including long working days, and sometimes is difficult to find the perfect topic. But if you want to write a blog, go for it. Use it for your gain, and who knows, it may take you somewhere.
